The Kiwanis Club of Toronto

Message from Geoff Ryan, President
Geoff Ryan, PresidentThe French philosopher, Teilhard du Chardin, wrote that: "The future belongs to those who give hope to it." The Kiwanis Club of Toronto has adopted this as our unofficial motto for the coming year. We are proud of, and grateful for, our legacy of over 90 years of service to children and youth in Toronto, but we are an organization with our focus firmly on the future.

The modern era's predominant model for philanthropy was the grant-making foundation, a template created by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1913 - a year before World War 1 and four years before the founding of the Kiwanis Club of Toronto. Since then, the world has changed and new generations have come to see this traditional model as a somewhat "old school" method of community involvement. Social entrepreneurship, using entrepreneurial methods and market mechanisms, is one of the new approaches to philanthropic endeavour, effectively reinventing charity in these postmodern times. The Kiwanis Club of Toronto is actively engaged in this process in our city, by employing the experience, skills and networks of our members.

Please take a few minutes to look around this website and check out the many different initiatives that the Kiwanis Club of Toronto is involved with and then, get in touch with us and join us for a complimentary Wednesday luncheon meeting and see what we are really about. You can help us give hope to the future!
